Just an interesting tidbit. My great grandmother was a Henderson. She passed on to the family a piece of redware (a pitcher with George Washinton surrounded by olive leaves). My mother told me that her grandma kept the fresh milk from the cows in it. It's well over 100 yrs. old. I just found out yesterday the connection to the Henderson's. If you know any of the Henderson family history that made it to So. Louisiana let me know ok.

Hi Lori,

I am Ken's older brother Peter.

You said the pitcher is 100+ years old, and your anisister is a Henderson.

It's not likely you are related to Ken. His family emigrated to the US from Scotland in the 1890's. We come from Caithness county, mainland northern Scotland, just below the Orkney Islands. We come from Clan Gunn. With Scandinavian/ Pictish roots. We got our name, Henderson ( Son Of Henry) after a distant ancestor avenged his father's (Henry the Crowner) murder by shooting a arrow thought the eye of the man who killed him.

From Wikipedia: “ Battle of Champions, 1478, Fought between twelve men of the Clan Gunn and twenty four men of the Clan Keith where the chief of Clan Gunn was killed (reputedly, the agreement was for "twelve horse" of each clan to meet and parley, and the Keith’s arrived with two men on each horse). The chief of the Clan Keith was also soon after killed by the Guns in a revenge attack at the chapel of St. Tears.”

This is the battle, and our distant ancestor slew the Chief of Clan Keith; that’s how we got our sir name.

Given your location, Louisiana, It’s more likely your ancestors come from the Henderson’s of Glen Coe. Those Henderson’s come from the Pictish prince Big Henry, son of King Nechtan. They were great pipers, bards and worriers. They were known for their size and strength and became the personal body guards of the chief of the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe. This meant they were among the victims of the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692. After the massacre, many Henderson’s emigrated to other parts of the British Isles and the New World.

Yours
Peter Henderson, Ken's older brother
